Rules for Essex County Mixed Competitions

1. Qualification. 

Entrants must be, registered members of the same club in the year the competitions are played, and play any other County Competitions from that club. 

Competitors who have played in an Essex County Mixed Competitions or are the named entrant may not play as a substitute in another team in the same Competition.

  • Mixed Pairs 
    A Mixed Pair will consist of one man and one lady. Two substitutes are allowed (one man and one lady) but only one substitute may play at any one time. He or she may play in either position. Once a substitute has played, only he or she may play as a substitute in future ties. The ‘‘Original Team’’ shall consist of those players who play the first tie. 
  • Mixed Triples
    A Mixed Triple will include a man and a lady. Two substitutes are allowed (one man and one lady) but only one substitute may play at any one time. A substitute may play in any position. Once a substitute has played, only he or she may play as a substitute in future ties. The ‘‘Original Team’’shall consist of those players who play the first tie. 
  • Mixed Fours
    A Mixed Four will consist of two men and two ladies. Two substitutes are allowed (one man and one lady) and both may play at the same time. A substitute may play in any position. Once a substitute has played, only he or she may play as a substitute in future ties. The ‘‘Original Team’’ shall consist of those players who play the first tie. 

2. Format. 

Mixed Pairs will be Four woods each player, 21 ends. Mixed Triples will be three woods each player, 18 ends. Mixed Fours will be two woods each player 21 ends. 

3. Dates. 

The Challenger shall offer 2 dates in different weeks (Monday being the first day of a week). In any preliminary round dates shall be offered not less than 21 days before the closing date of that round. For all other rounds dates shall be offered within 5 days of the closing date of the previous round. If this is not complied with The Opponent becomes the Challenger and will offer 2 dates at their own Club. Dates offered should be confirmed within 3 days. 

Extension of Play By Dates shall only be allowed when players are engaged in other National, ECLIBA or ECIBA Competitions and must be agreed with the Competition Sec. (See below). 

4. Duration. 

Games will be limited to FOUR hours including trial ends, except the Finals which will not have a time limit. 

5. Timing. 

Games should not normally start before 10.00 am and not later than 6.30 pm unless by mutual agreement. 

6. Rink Fees. 

Apart from the Final, rink fees will be paid by both teams according to the requirements in place at the venue. 

7. Dress Code. 

Dress for early rounds will be played in white above the waist or registered CLUB shirts and grey below. Dress for semi finals and finals will be white above the waist or registered CLUB shirts and white below. Ladies please read Rule 11 (d) of the ECLIBA constitution regarding Uniform with reference to the wearing of sandals/open toed shoes. 

8. Results. 

The winning team will report the result to the Competition. Sec. within 24 hrs of the game. See paragraph 11 below. The Competition Sec. will publish results on the ECIBA Web Site. Any team given a ‘‘Walk Over’’ must notify the Competition Sec. 

9. Disputes. 

The Competition Sec. Shall have power to deal with any matter not provided for in these Rules or in the ‘‘Laws of the Sport of Indoor Bowls’’ and report such decisions to the ECLIBA and ECIBA. 

10. Bowls and Laws. 

Bowls stamping will comply with the requirements of the ‘‘Laws of the Sport of Indoor Bowls’’. Unless modified by 1. to 9. above the games will be played according to the ‘‘Laws of the Sport of Indoor Bowls’’.

If it is not possible to email or text then messages can be left on 01702 621431 but no calls before 9.00 am or after 10.30 pm. Results should include team names, numbers and score.
